Alith AnarĪlith came out at the same time as the Queen and the Crone as a free DLC. It gives a lot more depth to both factions and I’ve particularly enjoyed playing as Alaraielle as she’s able to recruit Dryads and Treemen alongside high elven units. This DLC introduces two new lords, one for high elves and one for dark elves, as well as numerous new elven units. Not much to say except it is pretty fun to play on the defensive in these maps, particularly if you are the dwarves.

Steps of IshaĪ small free map pack with a linked series of maps for multiplayer or single battles. He makes for an even more chaotic style of play than normal Skaven and I particularly enjoyed ambushing pretty much every battle. This small DLC that came out at the same time as the Tomb Kings intoduces the new lord Tretch Craventail and his Skaven faction, Clan Rictus. Also introduced in the DLC is crafting, which initially was only for the Tomb Kings but has recently been extended to the dwarves as well. Having the two square off against each other is also particularly satisfying. With its varied undead hordes and unique monsters, it plays very differently to the Vampire Counts. You get the excellent Tomb King Faction, that plays very differently to any other faction. Possibly the best paid for DLC in Total War: Warhammer (both games).
Worth getting for more ‘realism’ – although how you get realism in a fantasy game I don’t know… Rise of the Tomb Kings I think it adds quite a lot to TW:WH2 in a way that it doesn’t for me in the historical games. Blood for the Blood God IIĪs ever with Total War, there is a small priced paid DLC for bloody effects. The variety and possibilities have made it pretty much the only game mode I’ll play now. I’ve had a few crazy games where I’ve essentially abandoned the old Dwarven Empire and set sail to conquer the new world instead, or vice versa with the Lizardmen going to the Old World. The DLC gives you (almost) the entire Warhammer World to play in across, with all the factions available from the first two games as well. You can only get if you have bought the first Total War: Warhammer, and it is worth buying that just to experience Mortal Empires. Mortal Empires is an absolute must for any player.

Nehekhara stirs today as legions of skeletal warriors and their vast constructs rise from the sands to reclaim their former glory.
